How to install dynamic wallpapers on macOS and Windows
Set dynamic desktop wallpapers that automatically switch between light and dark themes.
Using a custom wallpaper can be both motivating and visually satisfying, like if you’re aiming for a minimalist aesthetic.
Why not take it a step further and make your wallpaper dynamic?
This way, you can use a lighter one during the day and a darker one at night.
In this article, we’ll cover how to set up dynamic desktop wallpapers for both macOS and Windows users.
Note: For these steps, macOS wallpapers should be in HEIC format, while Windows wallpapers should be in DDW format.
For macOS users
Open System Settings.
Go to Wallpaper.
Click “Add Photo” to add your wallpaper.

If the wallpaper doesn’t change automatically, click the option beside the wallpaper name, select “Still” and then select “Automatic” again.
For Windows users
Download WinDynamicDesktop from GitHub or the Microsoft Store.
Launch WinDynamicDesktop.
Click “Import from file…” and select your wallpaper.
Click “Apply” to set your custom wallpaper.
