The BOOX Palma is a tiny e-reader that makes sense
My thoughts on the BOOX Palma after using it for 30 days.

It's been 30 days of using my BOOX Palma, or what I like to call a "Kindle phone."
For those hearing about it the first time, the BOOX Palma is a phone-sized device with an E Ink display that's easy on the eyes and ideal for reading. What sets it apart from a typical Kindle-like device is its ability to download any app from the Play Store.
This means I can choose from different reading apps besides Kindle, like Libby (a free app to borrow library books), Tapas (to read manga), and read-later apps like Reader, where I save articles and newsletters I find online.
Additionally, you can download any other apps as you would on a smartphone like Google Calendar, ChatGPT, or Notion.
But compared to a phone, the BOOX Palma lacks cellular connectivity and a SIM card slot—hence why it's not called a phone. This means no calls or messages, and you need to be connected to Wi-Fi to use online apps or browse the internet.
I primarily use my BOOX Palma for reading, and since apps like Kindle and Reader typically offer offline downloads, the lack of cellular data isn't a major drawback for me. However, having cellular connectivity would be the cherry on top, allowing me to use the device independently when I'm out and about.
Besides the E Ink display and access to Android apps, the last big advantage of this device for me is its size. After using it for 30 days, I've realised that its phone-like size sometimes curbs the urge to reach for my actual phone. Moreover, since it slips in and out of your pocket just like a phone, you can easily pull it out to read during your commute or while waiting.
So who is the BOOX Palma for?
Personally, I'd recommend it if you meet two conditions: first, you don't already own a Kindle or similar device (unless you're looking to replace one), and second, you appreciate having a separate device for reading to curb excessive phone or social media use.
