How to Customize App Icons on iPhone

Learn how to install custom app icons on your home screen in iOS 18.

To achieve a more consistent and clean look on your home screen, custom app icons can help. Follow along with this post to learn how.

  1. First, open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone or iPad. If you haven't installed it yet, you can get it from the App Store.


  1. Tap the "+" icon in the top right to create a new shortcut, then search for the Open App action.


  1. Choose the app you want to install a custom icon for.

  2. Next, tap the dropdown arrow next to the shortcut name and select Add to Home Screen.


  1. Tap the photo icon, then select either Choose Photo or Choose File, depending on where your custom icon is saved.

  2. Tap the text field below the icon to rename it to either the app's name or your preferred name.

  3. Lastly, tap "Add" to place the custom icon on your home screen.


Then, simply repeat the steps for the other apps to install custom icons.
