Ambient Music isn’t the same as the Background Sounds feature, and it feels more like a mini Apple Music app.
The fact that it works without an Apple Music subscription is a solid perk for iPhone users.
Let’s dive into how you can make the most of this feature.
What is Ambient Music?
Ambient music is background music that sets a mood or accompanies an activity, typically without strong beats or lyrics.
Apple provides four categories of music including Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing. Each category includes its own set of playlists to choose from.
How to add Ambient Music to your Control Center
Open your Control Center.
Tap the plus icon, and click on Add a Control.
Scroll to the Ambient Music section or search for it.
Tap any control to add it to your Control Center.

Outside of editing mode, you can tap on a control to start playing, and manage pause or skip from the Live Activity or the Now Playing control in Control Center.
Tapping on the Live Activity also opens a dedicated app, even though it doesn't show up on your home screen.

To choose a different playlist, enter editing mode and tap on an existing Ambient Music control to see all available options.

Now you can easily play background music with just a few taps away without installing another app or paying for a subscription.
This feels like an expansion of the existing Background Sounds feature, which offers white noise like rain and fire sounds, and I’m all for intentional features like this.
